Intel Capital at Thirty-Five: Building on a Legacy of Innovation
Reflecting on Thirty-Five Years
As we approach the thirty-fifth anniversary of Intel Capital, I find myself reflecting on the depth of our history and the momentum that continues to define us. Since our founding in 1991 as the first corporate venture firm, we have partnered with countless founders whose ideas have helped shape the world we operate in today. We have deployed more than $20B into over 1,800 start-ups, creating more than $200B in exit value for those companies. Our portfolio has delivered novel products to the market, and many have gone on to become category leaders, setting world standards. A few exits that have defined our fund both historically and more recently include the public listings of Astera Labs, Joby Aviation, VMware, Broadcom, MongoDB, Sprinklr, IMS, and Red Hat.
Our Longstanding Focus on the Future of Compute
This anniversary is not only a moment to honor the past but also an opportunity to look ahead. The industry is entering a period of transformation driven by artificial intelligence, rising demands on data center infrastructure, and new possibilities within the foundry ecosystem. These forces are reshaping how companies build, train, deploy, and optimize compute, while expanding what is possible across nearly every sector.
These areas have long been central to our investment approach. From our early investments during the emergence of the internet and the growth of cloud computing and mobile technologies, we have consistently focused on technologies that extend the reach and impact of silicon. Today, that focus continues with investments in AI, data center, and foundry technologies that multiply the use of compute and enable the next wave of innovation.
This approach has led us to invest most recently in companies like Anyscale, BRIA, Fabric8Labs, FieldAI, Figure, LILT, MinIO, TrueFoundry, and RunPod, alongside 250 additional teams in our portfolio. Collectively, these companies highlight the caliber of founders building across deep tech, AI and cloud-native infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing.
Sharpening How We Partner
Six years ago, I stepped into the role of leading the Intel Capital team. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together during that time. We sharpened our investment strategy, increased our ownership and engagement with portfolio companies, and continued to deepen both our investment and technical expertise. We also built a dedicated Portfolio Development team to help founders scale faster and more effectively.
Through this effort, we refined our global event strategy, hosting nearly 30 portfolio-focused events worldwide in 2025. We launched the Embedded Expert Program (ExP), which gives Intel Capital portfolio companies direct access to Intel’s top talent. Designed specifically for our portfolio, ExP helps solve complex challenges spanning AI development, go-to-market strategy, high-volume manufacturing, and more. To date, 250 experts and consultants have been embedded through the program, driving measurable outcomes and lasting growth across the portfolio.
Most importantly, we continue to earn the trust of founders who value an investor with deep operating experience, a long view of technology cycles, and an innate understanding of semiconductor manufacturing and frontier technologies. Their progress remains the clearest measure of our impact.
Looking Ahead
We are energized by Lip-Bu Tan’s leadership at Intel. His experience guiding semiconductor and systems companies through periods of growth, combined with his venture industry tenure, underscores the strategic importance of our work.
As we enter our thirty-fifth year, our mission remains clear. We will continue to invest in the future of compute by supporting founders building the technologies of tomorrow, and we will help them scale with the full strength of Intel behind them. The next chapter is already taking shape, and we are ready for it.
Check out the latest interview from our Behind the ExP series, which brings these stories to life and offers a firsthand look at how this one-of-a-kind program is helping visionary companies scale and succeed.
